About Textbook Narcissism
Textbook Narcissism LLC is an artist-run software studio. We exist so that people who make things — artists, designers, writers, developers — can publish apps without turning themselves into companies.
Why the name?
Making anything and putting your name on it is, if you think about it too long, textbook narcissism. We decided to stop thinking about it too long. The name is a small joke at our own expense, and a reminder to keep the ego in the work rather than in the marketing.
How it works
The collective operates as a publisher. An artist brings a project; the studio provides the boring-but-necessary infrastructure — developer accounts, app store submissions, distribution, and the legal wrapper of an LLC. Creative control stays with the person who made the thing.
We keep the roster small on purpose. Every project gets finished, shipped, and looked after.
What we believe
- Small is a feature. An app can be a complete thought, not a platform.
- Attention is borrowed, not harvested. Nothing we ship is designed to maximize time-in-app.
- Artists should own their work. The studio is a wrapper, not a landlord.
